A Yellow Crowned Night Heron stopped by the house.

Certainly more welcomed than a live-in mouse.

My wife told me there were two of them yesterday.

I guess one has flown off and gone some other way.

This one was looking a little lonely standing in the rain.

I ran to get my camera hoping there he’d remain.

He must have known I wanted a picture, I suppose.

Once I had my camera there he stood, striking a pose.

He let me get off a few shots and then got bored

He spread his wings, took flight and off he soared.

Now, why a night heron was out in the day, I surmise

Is because I could not have gotten a picture otherwise.

However, there remains one item that’s still a blur.

I really don’t know if this heron was a him or a her.
