Spring officially came to my little back yard this week. It’s official when the ducklings hatch. There are two families currently stopping by everyday now. Mom likes torn up pieces of bread; the little ones favor Rice Krispies.
One mom had 11 babies the first day. Then there were 9, then 7 and today, just about a week later, there are only three ducklings left. Why? It’s the beautiful, majestic Great White Egret. It will ignore mom’s frantic wing flapping and squawking and simply reach in and pluck out a duckling and then off it goes, in flight with the chirping little one tightly in its beak…gulp! And so goes spring…dauntingly, at mother nature’s direction.
Books by Marc Kuhn: THE POPE’S STONE, an historical novel that follows two descendants of a Virginia family who, despite living a century apart, share uncanny similarities in their lives; NEVER GOOSE A MOOSE, a collection of whimsical verse featuring thought-provoking “never-do’s” that children should beware of; and ABOUT A FARM, a children’s book about challenges we all face every day, regardless of where we live. All three books are available at amazon.com and each has its own .com website under its title.
